We, Ichiro and Takako Nakayama, come originally from Osaka (West Japan) which is famous for its tasty cuisine. Our menue offers next to Sushi also Okonomiyaki, which is one of the oldest dishes in Japan and a symbol for Osaka.Typical ingredients in Japanese cuisine are fish, meat, vegetables and seaweed. When preparing our dishes in Restaurant Ayame, we carefully choose high quality ingredients and find the right balance between protein, minerals and vitamins. For more than 40 years, my mother Katsuko Nakayama has been running a famous restaurant in Osaka which is specialized on Okonomiyaki dishes. We believe that our traditional recipes will delight our esteemed guests. We are looking forward to your visit to Restaurant Ayame.※ Of course, we offer our dishes also for take away.
Recommend making a reservation, the restaurant is not very big. The food is excellent, so fresh & made to order! Staff is wonderful! We love going here for dinner!
Here you have to say: small but nice! :)
The sushi is absolutely top, the best in the KL region. Already ordered several times and always been satisfied! You can just taste that it is freshly prepared. However, it is necessary to pre-order in advance by telephone.
It wasn't entirely clear where the restaurant is, but the food is beyond words!
Small but nice. Everything is freshly prepared but you have to be patient.
Super delicious food in a nice atmosphere and with super delicious food. Children and vegetarians will also find something delicious here. For vegetarians, be sure to talk to the cook and, if possible, order in advance by phone. An absolute recommendation!
Very tasty, great sushi. Very friendly. Can also be picked up easily in current times
We attempted to visit the restaurant on a Saturday at lunch time and we were told they were taking customers despite their listed times saying they were available. Never returning.
Nice service, delicious food, we were able to enjoy the stay despite all the hygiene regulations. ?
Very small location and takes getting used to. But super nice staff, everything is freshly prepared and you can look into the kitchen from your seat. Food was delicious, but I've also eaten better sushi. is not such a tourist train but authentic cuisine, therefore 4 out of 5. Because there are nicer locations with comparable cuisine for the price
Cute, small and simple Japanese Restaurant hidden in a hotel. Authentic and fine Japanese food? Can see that the food is made with a lot of love and care? Even the spring onions in the miso are thinly cut to almost transparent! I also love their Karaage (fried chicken), its very juicy and nicely seasoned with taste of ginger? Super attentive to details and not sloppy at all. ?
During Corona times they offer a delivery service. Super fresh and delicious and only recommended! Gladly again :)
This is the best, freshest sushi I have ever had. It’s a tiny, quiet, cosy restaurant making for a perfect date with a partner or close friends. My girl friend and I would make this our monthly sushi date and our spouses started tagging along once they tasted it. The mango roll is on point! The only possible downside is it can take a while to get your food...personally, this does not bother me because you can see the chef taking his time to perfectly and carefully craft each roll...it’s all about the quality. The wait is 1000% worth it.
Loved the food!
Fresh Sushi. Very delicious.
My favorite restaurant in Kaiserslautern. Fresh and tasty sushi, Okonomiyaki is a hit. Unfortunately, since the change of ownership, the classic Ayame menu is no longer available. Still worth a visit.
Delicious food and authentic experience. Great job in making the historical jail premise fun to be in.
Delicious authentic Japanese food
We were in Ayame food for the first time yesterday. We go Japanese a lot, but like never before. It was just a dream. The food was wonderful, we both have never had such good sushi. The takoyaki was perfect, the miso soup absolutely right and everything was beautifully presented. The decor of the Ayames is absolutely authentic Japanese. We have a new trunk restaurant
The worst Sushi restaurant I have ever been to. The Sushi is not freshly made.
I used to love coming here. But this recent visit was just disappointing. I noticed that our food was made in the microwave. Even the rice for my sushi was heated up in the microwave.
This little great restaurant has come to appreciate and love. A friend brought me there and am grateful to him. Great food, great miso and excellent sushi. The Onikomaki are outstanding. Highly recommended and service is outstanding. Go and try it out. You will not regret it.
It's a nice hidden little spot. Good Japanese food. I only gave a 4 star because they seemed to make food for one table at a time, so you can find yourself waiting a bit.
The food at Ayame is so good, it really reminds me of the little Okinawan restaurants I miss. The sashimi is the freshest I've found in Germany, and their gyoza is the best! Plus, you can have a great lunch then walk the Japanese Garden around the corner for a really perfect afternoon.
Very nice, small and cozy restaurant. We had the honor to be served by the cook and to be cooked. The food is delicious and prepared with love. Everything was very fresh and excellently prepared. It is a little hard to find, but the search for the restaurant is worthwhile ^^
Very small, but very fine. Prices absolutely ok for the offered quality. Service was a very polite way to know it from Japanese. Come back.
Best sushi I have had in Germany. The staff is extremely friendly and highly motivated. Everything on the menu is authentic and excellent quality. Expect a wait because of limited staff but if you know good sushi you wont be disappointed.
Simply delicous
I'm a Korean & I'm so glad I found this place! I love Japanese food and food from this restaurant reminds me of food that I had in Japan. ? This restaurant was pretty good. It also has two high chairs, so I just brought my baby's own plate, and it worked well. ?Check the working hours from April 3, 2019 - April 22, 2019 though. 근처 일식집 중에 제일 일본 가정식 맛이 나는 요리. 런치스패셜 가성비 좋음.
We tried something new today the food was super delicious. I can only recommend but now comes the one star deduction we were at 19 o'clock our food comb only at 21:30 o'clock the service with the drinks after they were empty an overwhelmed impressed. One ordered the other wanted to have something gone, she was not asked who else or what else would be like. When drinks came old the glasses were left standing and collected. So as I said food was great but 2 1/2 hour wait other people who came after we had food is not. Oh yes they have other food so not only sushi.
The Ayame is located in the Hotel Alcatraz and is very small. As a precaution, you should book as much as possible. It has an open kitchen and you can watch the cook. However, if you are unlucky you sit with your back to the kitchen and then really only has to face his counterpart. ? The food was delicious, fresh and really lovely. I would have imagined the Okonomyaki bigger. And ... you have to bring time and patience. We have for u. Main course needed to pay nearly 2.5 hours. That was really long in the small restaurant. I would have liked to try the ice cream but I just did not feel like it anymore. Too bad. Service was also very friendly but not enough on Zack. We were there on Saturdays from 18 clock. At 20 o'clock much less was going on. I think everything would have gone a bit faster. Prices are ok. We were 2 people and paid about 40 euros.
Amazing sushi, friendly staff, but it is quite pricy.
The only authentic and best Japanese food in town.
Best sushi ever,and very authentic.Arigato
I've been in Germany a year and I love sushi.!! This is hands down the best resturant for the occasion. Go try it I promise you'll love it.!! It is kind of small and hidden. I went as a couple but theirs room for a small group.!! Enjoy??
could be more food more personal
Hella good food
This little pearl is well hidden by the Hotel Alcatraz (prison hotel). The cuisine has hardly had any western influence, so you can order authentic Japanese delicacies. The menu selection is kept small, which shows an even deeper Japanese influence, almost like an izakaya. What I enjoyed with pleasure: Edamame, Miso-Supo, curry rice with Tonkatsu and a small side salad.
Authentic Japanese hidden in the former prison with very tasty dishes and fair prices. The small restaurant is minimalist, almost improvised with an open kitchen. Nothing is lost in quality after changing operators. Only the Okonomiaki no longer exist. Service very friendly. You should bring some time with you. Inexpensive lunch table Highly recommended
Worst and slow service ever
Since the place has a new owner, the menu has changed. No more okonomiyaki, instead the main courses are exclusively sushi. Nonetheless the food was fresh and good. You shouldn't be in a rush though.
Nicht Gut! This place used to be a gem. Now, under new ownership, the menu is horrible, the tuna came out looking like it had been sitting out all day (see photo - "spicy tuna"). Overall I'm disappointed with what used to be a go-to date night spot.
The food itself was very good and fresh, but the service was terrible. We went for lunch, there were three other tables, and we waited an hour for our food. They also forgot about half of my order. I will not be coming back.
Authentic Japanese food. The focus lies on sushi, however the few other dishes are fantastic. I can especially recommend the eel (unagi).
Great food. Lovely staff. Didn't take cards on the night we went which was inconvenient. I was a little disappointed they no longer made the okonomiyaki advertised on the website as I was looking forward to it bur it looks like the website is being worked on. Food was super delicious and fresh.
You can find this hidden restaurant when you walk through the reception of Hotel Alcatraz. The sushi and other dishes taste excellent and the price is fair. Unfortunately, the restaurant was only staffed by 2 people and with a 3/4 full restaurant this led to somewhat longer waiting times. The atmosphere owes the building to a rather sterile environment. This restaurant has the potential to become the best sushi restaurant in Kaiserslautern. The staff is also super friendly.
Had a wonderful dinner in great atmosphere. The food and the service were terrific. I was pleasantly impressed.
Well, the sushi goes like that, have definitely been much better, the ambience is not the nicest, the service is great and the okonomiyaki was ok, a second visit will not be there for us
authentic japanese food. very friendly. nice little restaurant. the price is right.
Simple sushi done well!
